Power, UPS & Cooling Systems

POWER:

CITADEL100 is designed with the most resilient power engineering so that no Single Points of Failure exists in our data centre. Our Citywest Data centre incorporates an N+N redundant electrical system where dual independent electrical supplies are provided at in excess of 20MVA. External transformers are provided in an N+N configuration and are directly fed from the primary MV switchboard, with battery backup providing continual power.

The Data centre is backed up by N+1 diesel driven generators with 48 hours fuel storage. A full support-regime is in place which allows us to re-fill onsite diesel tanks and maintain the generators at full-load continuously so a customer never loses power to their racks.

UPS:

Our UPS system provides power redundancy as well as increasing the performance and reliability of clients systems. The system fully isolates and protects against all power quality disturbances within the data center.

The upstream harmonics management allows a generator-friendly installation in an N+N configuration. The UPS system offers features such as paralleling for capacity and redundancy and full front access for ease of serviceability. The UPS is fully incorporated and monitored using our in-house BMS (building management system) which has been programmed by our engineers in-house.

We currently have 16.5 MW of UPS onsite which corresponds to 8.25MW for path A and 8.25MW for path B. Our current total rack load onsite is less than 4.5MW. This gives us considerable unallocated capacity within path A & path B.

CITADEL100’s innovative designed power system incorporates the following features:

  • N+N redundancy
  • Power densities of up to 2kW/m2
  • Eight (8) continuous power supply (CPS) online generator units
  • Fuel to support a minimum of 48 hours of runtime at full facility deployment
  • Dual utility feeders Static transfer switches (STS) at each PDU
  • -48V DC power in N+N configuration
  • Dual fed critical load distribution boards
  • Full maintenance bypass feeders

COOLING:

CITADEL100 provides state-of-the-art Cooling systems in an N+2 configuration. Cooling is provided at between 1,000 and 2,000 W/m2 and monitored and controlled by our bespoke BMS.

Cooling is provided via redundant 1.2MW air-cooled screw chillers. The chilled water is circulated around the colocation rooms via redundant chilled water circulating pumps, piped in a loop, incorporating intermediate isolating valves to facilitate the removal and maintenance of the system without customer impact.

Planned, preventative maintenance is carried out on a daily basis.

INTEGRATED SYSTEMS TESTING:

When it comes to 100% uptime, Citadel is one of the few data centre operators who guarantees that your data centre will be available to you and your customers 100% of the time, inclusive of any scheduled and emergency maintenance. This guarantee covers power on A or B supplies. In short, if we fail in our guarantee we are liable for penalties or service credits from the first millisecond of downtime.

In 13 years of operation we have never had a full power outage. We could only successfully deliver on this guarantee through the implementation of our Integrated System Testing. The practice of carrying out integrated system testing on a weekly basis is now standard operating procedure in Citadel100.

Integrated Systems Testing is much more than proving that systems work. It’s about identifying the human, component and system weaknesses under controlled conditions which allows us manage the direct impact of such potential failures on our service to our clients. It’s about exposing potential weaknesses before they manifest themselves into an uncontrolled failure that most likely could lead to a crisis.

If you are a potential client and would like to view the Integrated Systems Testing in action please fill out the Request Information Form below and we can schedule an appointment for you. Thank You.
